Forty something male stepping into the great unknown of blogs.

I'm trying to lose weight. I recently joined Weight Watchers and it seems to be working out pretty good for me. 14.8 lbs in 7 weeks. I'm happy with that. Well on my way to the 21 lb drop WW recommended. I want to try to get all the way to 162. Hence the blog, that's not going to get easy. Figured writing about it would help.

My wife is petite and has been over 100 lbs just twice in her life. My daughter is only fourteen, takes after her mother, and has the metabolism of a teenager. So, they can't relate to weight loss problems. Although the best thing about WW is I'm eating the same foods they do I just limit my quantities.

About 4 years ago I hit 255 lbs and was mortified. I could balance a beer bottle on the shelf of my gut when sitting down. In the shower I would look down and barely see my toes. Not good. I've always dealt with weight issues but, had never been that big. I been as low as 165-175 lbs 20 years ago and had even run a few marathons. But, over the years I stopped exercising and the weight crept up and up.I had tried to start an exercise programs many many times but, would do it for a few weeks and stop.

I don't know why but, after I hit 255 I started working out downstairs on my Nordic Track & rowing machine and something clicked. I kept at it. I put my VCR/DVD player down the in the basement with the machines and would watch movies while I worked out. I also did the laundry. I ate less at meals. I probably starved myself a few times too but, the weight started coming off.
