Summer's over. DD starts school tomorrow. The summer vacation is done. DW & I are both back to work. Time to start the Fall routine.
Prior to vacation I had started to speed up my workouts. I was pretty excited about that but, each speedy run was followed by sore stomach muscles the next morning. I haven't done a run longer than 6 miles in I don't know how long. My cross-training workouts (rower & Nordic track)lately have stunk. I guess I'm in a little bit of a funk. I need to work on my core. I want to reincorporate a weekly long run into the routine. I need to get cross-training again. While I'm at it push-ups, stretching, & a little weight training wouldn't be bad either. What to do.
Looking at the LTR thread I'm not the only one dealing with a training funk. Last night I went for my first run since vacation & stopped 100' from the house. I seriously thought about turning around & going back home. I finished the run, felt pretty good in fact, but, stopping before I really started was a real possibility.
I'm not doing a marathon this Fall. I am running the Applefest half marathon at the end of September. I can continue to push my pace & start folding weekly long runs back into the routine.
The family schedule may be initially somewhat stressful. DD needs to start getting up at 6 AM. She's 14 & the summer wakeup time has been closer to 10. No more 2 AM bedtimes (late night reading)for her. DW gets stressed out because of logistical reasons, she's DD's chaffeur to & from school. Her days are longer. Between school, dance lessons,& whatever other after school activity DD has, DW's days are longer. DD goes to her grandparents' house after school too. My wife + fatigue + my in-laws make for a volatile mix. I expect a blowout or two. My wife is formidable when's she's cranky. She's like a thunderstorm, rather than argue with her I just let it blow over.
I expect my workouts will be later at night than they have been. Oh well.
I expect working out the right mix will be challenging. Oh well.
I expect DD & DW will both be crankier. Oh well.
It comes with the territory. We can handle it.
I'm Pete.
