I don't know what it's like with women but, any guy who's ever put on weight will probably tell you the same thing. The last thing in his wardrobe to be adjusted will be his underwear. It probably has as much to do with an elastic waistband but, it's partially a state of denial. If I don't need to buy a bigger size of underwear I'm not getting fat.
I'd have to drop trou to be sure (I won't since I'm at work) but, I think the range of undies is about 4 pant sizes. For instance a large size covers waists 36-40,medium 32-36,etc...
NSV, I need to purchase new underwear. I already know I need to buy more pants that fit (I'm right now wearing a waist 31),most of my pants are size 34-33 & are baggy to say the least. Most of my boxer briefs are large. There's a lot of room "in there" these days. The weather's been very hot lately too. Think a male lion in a National Geographic special. Sorry for the visual. The fellas need more support.
I think part of the reason MIL gives me such a hard time about my weight loss is my clothes don't fit. My shirts are loose & my pants are saggy-assed. All I need is a baseball cap on backwards & a skateboard under my arms to look like a "dude". I'm 45. I want to look lean, trim, & healthy not sloppy.
I'm going to start on the first layer & work my way out.
I'm Pete.
