The Planets Are Lining Up

It's been a long summer. What with the neverending painting project & dealing with the befores,afters, & during of MIL's knee surgery, this summer has been short on Fun. Next week the family is scheduled to go to Mount Desert Island in Maine. We'll be camping for a week in Bass Harbour,on the southwest part of the island.

It was a little touch & go for awhile. At one point DW was going to send me & DD by ourselves because MIL was having such a rough time with her initial recovery; DW was going to stay home & nurse her. That would've sucked. I doubt DD & I would go without her. Alka needs the vacation more than any of us.

Luckily, MIL has been getting better rapidly. She's having the staples (grisly) in her knee taken out today. She has a checkup with her doctor tomorrow & should be home by this weekend. We've got a bed moved down to the first floor for her. I'll be there this weekend installing a few extra handrails along the stairs too.

We pushed the vacation departure date from this Sunday to Tuesday but, we're going. I made the change to the reservations so, we're all set.

I've got to persuade the ladies to pick up some hiking shoes this weekend. I want to do several good size hikes while we in Acadia. I've got a 9 mile running route plotted out for myself; I hope to do that 2-3 times. I don't want a repeated weight gain like the one I had after the guys' trip. It's not too likely because I won't drink as much beer & Alka & Priyanka keep an eye on what I eat anyway so, as long as I work out I should be fine.

I can't wait to hike. I can't wait to sit by a campfire. I'm looking forward to running an a route (along Rte 102) that I haven't run in over 25 years. I want to read a book. I want to grill on the campfire. I can't wait to sit on the rocky shores of Maine & listen to the waves pound. I can't wait to take Priyanka on to the Precipice Trail; lately it's been closed for nesting peregrine falcons.

I can't wait.
