New Shoes & the Beer Challenge

I bought new running shoes on my day off. My old ones, NB 897 Trail Runners, were bought right before the 2004 World Series. According to DD's physical therapist, shoes age even when there not being used. As much as mileage, time can degrade a shoes performance. I'd noticed after my last couple of runs my knees felt a little funny.

I was going to buy them from a running specialty store so, I could get a running gait analysis done. The store is in Westboro about a 45-60 minute drive from home & I just haven't been able to find the time for the trip. My old shoes are two years old & the knees have felt a little funny the last couple of weeks. I didn't want to wait another week...

They feel great. I went out for a short run Wednesday & the shoes felt wonderful. I'm keeping a running log & will track my mileage on these shoes. I won't go two years between pairs again.

On another front, I made a pledge with Priyanka (DD) not to drink any beer until I'm 10 lbs away from my WW's goal weight. My goal weight is 162; I weighed 177.2 at Wednesday's WI. Suddenly 5.2 seems like a big number. With regards to beer I'm pretty much a teetotaller. I don't drink every night but, I do really enjoy my beer. The fact I can't drink ANY beer makes this a wonderful incentive.

This is a terrific time to be a beer drinker. With all the microbreweries that have sprung up around the country there's never been a bigger, more diverse selection of brew available to the beer connoisseur. This time of year everybody's got their Octoberfest out & I don't want to miss out. My sister's annual pumpkin carving contest/Halloween party is coming up & my BIL always has some good brew on hand.

I lost 1.8 lbs this week. I have a feeling this is going to be the pace of any further WL. The closer I get to goal the tougher it's going to get. I can hopefully make 172 in 2-3 weeks. We'll see.

I love my new Bose sound system. We purchased this as part of the Paint Challenge Booty. I've always wanted to own a sound system like this & it was worth all the work & effort of this summer's project. We're in the market for a new home computer but, we're putting off the purchase of the new TV until next year. I read an article that said due to overproduction the industry is expecting a 20-30% drop in prices for big-ass LCD & plasma TV's in 2007.

Life is Good.
