I've lost a lot of weight. I can run a good distance but, my flexibility is crap.
I tried some yoga this week & I feel like I've been tortured on the rack. It's my own damn fault, I hardly warmed up at all. All the little muscles in my back weren't ready for all that bending & twisting. I also pushed myself further than I was ready to go. I'm okay judging my limits on a run but, with yoga not so much.
Earlier in the week I showed DW how to do lunges right before I went out on a run. By the end of the run (8+) my right hip was getting tight. I think I hyperextended it demonstrating the lunge technique.
I'm spoiled. I don't really warm up before I run. I just take it easy for the first mile & don't push it until I feel good & loose. This technique doesn't work with other types of fitness. If I'm going to try yoga again I should probably do it after a short run not as a stand alone workout. I also need to keep that in mind if I'm going to do some serious weight training.
I can live with being a little stiff in the morning. That's just being 45; the stiffness goes away within minutes of getting out of bed. I'll also continue with the protein supplements & vitamins to counteract training aches & pains.
I haven't really ever had a serious training injury. I've been lucky. I need to workout smart. Flex the brain muscle first before I work the body.
I'm Pete.
