On the Mend

Superbly conditioned, world-class athlete that I am I have been dealing with my first honest to God running related injury. I've been getting a pain in the front of my right hip. It has bothered me in the last mile of 5+ mile runs. I think I got it showing Alka (DW) the proper way to do a lunge. I'm not very bendy anymore so, I must've gone out of my range of motion & strained the bastard.

I bought new shoes (NB's) & thought they might have something to do with it so, I went to a running specialty & got a pair of Mizunos. The store owner has you run with the shoes on to see your running gait. It was kind of cool & the shoes didn't cost anymore than the ones I got at Dick's.

My first run with the Mizunos I still felt a twinge at the end so, I've x-trained twice this week. My first two back to back quality (45+ minutes)x-train workouts in quite some time. My hip definitely feels better so the extra days off the road will pay off. I'll find out for certain tonight.

This week's x-training made me wonder if the injury might have something to do with the fact I have been sacrificing the rowing/nordic track for more running. Maybe it's a bit of a muscle imbalance.

I still need to stretch more. After my run. After properly warming up.

My half marathon is in two weeks. I'd like to see how far along my endurance (it's been over a month since my last 10+ mile)is but, I'm concerned about pushing my hip too far. A dilemna.

I talked to one of my sales reps today, Bob. I found out he's a runner too. I don't get much chance to talk to other people about running outside of LTR. He's running the half marathon of the Pisgah Mountain Race this weekend up in NH. We talked shop. It was cool.

At lunch I went out & bought a couple of books on running. One of them is a book called ChiRunning,it talks about a method of running without injury. I like the sound of that.

I think I'm on the mend.

I've got my mojo.

Running is cool.
