King Tut is this weekend. I think Sunday's run may wrap up running in Leominster State Forest until after deer season.
I've been out there running throughout bird season & during the start of bow season but, the thought of being out in the woods with guys with guns...It's kind of a Darwinian moment. Part of my run, Brook Rd, actually hugs & partly overlaps property owned by the Leominster Sportsman's Club. I know enough about hunting to know LSF is a good place for deer.
There's a safety issue here but, somebody on RA made the point that I could screw up a deer hunter's good time. I enjoy running down the trails. A hunter likes searching for that prize buck. Imagine his delight when the trophy of a lifetime gets spooked by yours truly tooling down a trail. It's just not cool.
So adieu, to LSF after Sunday's run. I may still frequent Groton Town Forest a couple of times a week. Part of the forest is along neighborhoods. Fairly well to do neighborhoods whose residents are no doubt quick to call the police if they hear gunfire too close to their homes. If I was a hunter I'd think GTF was too big of a pain in the ass & go hunt in a larger forest.
During yesterday's run I heard gunshots across the Squannacook where I know the Groton Sportsman Club is so, somebody's getting warmed up. On the other hand I also heard the two runners who were also running around the woods. Even with the Shuffle on I could hear their faint voices & people moving. I'm very obervant & careful. I've got excellent hearing (ask my employees) & very good peripheral vision. I've never been caught unaware by other people when out on a run. I wear hunter orange. I look out for tree stands & deer scat (or is it droppings with deer?).
Very cautiously, I will continue running in Groton. It's a little risky but, so is running at night. A runner's got to run. Hope I don't wind up over somebody's mantle.

It appears that your safety goal is the same as mine when I am running outside of my neighborhood: don't get mounted!
