January Workouts

To the left is my workout machine of choice so far this Winter. My driveway isn't long but, it is steep & wide. Last year I shoveled it but,it was a mild winter & I considered it crosstraining. This Winter the storms have come so often that the novelty of shoveling has worn off. Why do by hand what you can do with a power tool?

Hopefully when I get through tonight's workout I'll get a run in. I was jazzed up after last night's run. I went out for a ten miler. I ran at a very conservative pace. It felt good. I figured I'd throw on a little extra at the end & the "extra" turned out to be almost 2 miles (should've run the Quail Run cul-de-sac to make up the extra .07 mile). I ran almost 12 miles. I was tired but, if I had Gu'd up midrun I could've very easily had done another 3 miles. The Buzz is in two weeks & I will be ready.

The trick seems to be more running. Not so much longer distances but, more running workouts per week. My body is responding to the extra stimulus just dandy. I hope this keeps up.

I definitely believe that getting out there more often makes a huge difference. From a weight loss standpoint, I have read that running speeds up your metabolism for a couple of hours afterward. More days running = more hours with elevated burning power.

I am glad to hear you are getting your groove back!
