Afternoon Delight

My assistant was on vacation this week. He's earned the time off so, I hope he's having a good time but, it's been a long week for me. By the time the store closes today I'll have worked 60+ plus hours since Sunday, 13 days in a row without a day off, with two more to go. Ugh.

As a way to deal with the long hours, I've been taking two hour lunches & going for a run. Two hours gives me enough time to drive home, run about 5 miles, most importantly stop sweating, shower, inhale lunch, & get back to work.

Unless I'm going on a trail run (at best twice a week) I run strictly at night. Lunchtime running's been different. For one thing because I have a definite time limit there's no fiddle-farting around. I have to get right out the door. Pit stops, hydration, food/fueling has to be started about an hour before I head out if it's going to do me any good.

It's strange running in daylight, with shadows, & people & more traffic. I've actually put on some color too. I'm fair skinned ordinarily & don't go much into tanning but, I look ruddy.

The best part of the lunchtime runs has been a route I've found around Lake Whalom. It runs through parts of Lunenburg I wouldn't ordinarily go at night. No streetlights. At the 2nd mile there's a long climb up Cross St that's quite a workout, really shreds the quads. Fun.

I go back to work with a running buzz & my workout is through for the day. After work has been busy too so, that's been a good thing.

I've gone 31+ miles in 5 days & I've got two more to go in my running week. I still kind of prefer an evening workout; it's a good pressure reliever at the end of the day but, I think I'm going to try and run at lunchtime at least twice a week from now on. That'll free up a couple of nights for family time or an optional rowing workout. Sweet.
